Flop Over Crossbody, Tobacco – Review

This bag has been such a great little (or not so little!) summer carry. I’ve taken it to the beach, to the museum, the playground, on vacation, on hikes, on walks, you name it!  It’s perfect for when you need to be hands free and just want your bag to be an easy light weight carry.  It’s great b/c it folds over a lot and takes up very little space if it’s not packed or it expands and can carry my Surface.  You can tell I’m in summer mode with the three (3) kinds of sunscreen in that bag…we had lots of fun, outdoors days!

If you’re wondering why the pillow, it’s because the bag kept disappearing into my lap making it difficult to see otherwise.  Also, this is my 2nd  time shooting this video. I shot the whole thing outside in EXTREME heat because I prefer you guys see the bag in natural light….well, it was so hot, the phone shut down halfway through and gave some sort of heat warning, so I gave up shooting outside!  Check out the Nuts & Bolts video (link below) if you want to see it in natural light. Third time’s the charm though and I finally finished this video!

I’m loving this bag!  By far, this is the biggest leather bag I’ve reviewed and my first true travel bag.  We went camping a few weeks ago and I cannot believe the capacity of this bag.  For a 3 day, 2 night stay, we fit clothes in there for hubby, kiddo and myself.   My husband absolutely adores this bag as it fits well with his tall frame (6’3”) and he’s a huge fan of backpack mode.  I wanted to do this Nuts and Bolts video first so you can appreciate the size and features of this bag.

THE LEATHER SHOP – Adjustable Tote Nuts & Bolts

This bag has a lot of features – 6 interior pockets, two side pockets with snap closures, 2 pen holders, removable key fob (I use my fish hook for this so I can slide my keys on instead of snapping it on / off, see link below), top snap closure, not to mention ALL the customizable options (adding feet, cross body strap, adjusting height, width, etc).  I thought all this organization deserved a Nuts & Bolts video so you can appreciate everything and see the size of the pockets. For all you Type A’s out there who need everything JUST SO, this is for you.

This is the “Everyday Bag” – work (fits a laptop) and weekend (lightweight and squishy)!  If you’re like me, you need details! It’s not enough to know that it has a pocket, you need to know how wide and tall and where it’s placed and…well, you need to know everything!  Here’s ‘everything’….

What I love about this bag:

  • Smart Closure – Most closures are too small, but this has a very generous closure. Even with it stuffed to the gills, I can still close it.

LM LEATHER GOODS – Wentworth Purse Tote Review

This bag was unequivocally worth the wait!  It’s simple, but elegant; right sized, but roomy.  It’s your everyday, everything bag.  It fits my laptop and its cord so it can be a work bag; it’s not too big so it can be a lunch bag; it’s squishy and lightweight enough that it’s a great weekend purse.

About the maker…

Three (3) generations deep still making their products in Indiana. Originally a guitar strap maker, their selection has expanded to include a modest selection of women’s bags, men’s bags and leather accessories.   I have their Field Notes case and the leather on that thing is insane…I actually invent reasons to pull it out and write stuff, weird I know.  Tyler, please make a women’s bag (maybe a 10 X 10 size) out of the same leather that your Field Notes is in.  That would be amazing!

About Version 2.0…

This bag is one of the more versatile bags I own!  I have only one wish and that’s swing the pocket and key fob to the other side of the bag.  I realize this means the front of the bag will show the stitching, but I think they can expand the pocket and hide the stitching under the bag handles where they’re affixed to the bag.  No biggie though and don’t let this stop you from buying this beauty. I’m just picky about my pockets!

GO FORTH GOODS – Gunnar Leather Duffle Bag

I’m inspired by the Go Forth Goods – to inspire others to do good. I’m glad to shine a light on their positivity, their American made commitment and their choice to give back to the community.  10% of all their profits go to support their chosen charity. As you know, I’ve searched long and hard for the right military style duffle bag to review. This one caught my eye for a few reasons and I can’t wait to test drive it. Road trip, anyone?

On the mechanics of this bag…everything metal is solid brass, there’s a double handle top carry, a zipper option and a backpack option.   There’s just a pride of craftsmanship that shines through on this bag. If you saw my unboxing on this bag, you saw me do a little happy dance at the end.  Well, the happiness hasn’t faded at all!  The more I use this bag, the more I appreciate all the little things about this bag. If there was something Nick Duvall could have done to make the bag a little better, then he took the time to do it.  Here’s a brief overview of what makes this bag a standout:

  • Leather pulls for both zippers
  • Leather loops at both ends of the exterior zipper for easy opening and closing
  • Flexible zipper flap so it can be pulled up to open and then tucked down into the bag when closed
  • Leather trim / piping around the top edge of the bag
  • Inside seams
  • Full leather pocket (not just a single piece of leather sewn to the bag)
  • Additional open pocket
  • Key Fob
  • Solid copper rivets
  • Small (removable) branded leather key chain on the exterior
  • Structured, yet soft full grain leather.
  • Large capacity despite size

All of the above features are standard!  This bag is proudly crafted in Kingston, Pennsylvania. This makes me want to take a trip out to Pennsylvania in person to bug Nick for a tour of the studio.  Yup, this bag makes  me want to go Stage V clinger.

I get a LOT of questions about bag measurements.  What can I say?  We are a detail oriented bunch.  We don’t just want to know IF there’s a pocket, we want to know if it’s an open pocket, divided pocket, hanging pocket, anchored pocket….well, here you go!  Here’s the nuts and bolts of the Duvall Leatherwork Small Shoulder Bag.  Please note the measurements are approximate!  A few comments about how I measure below.  Stay tuned for the full review coming soon!

POCKETS – I measure the exterior of the pocket and then subtract ½” to account for the fact that the actual pocket is slightly smaller on the interior.  The height of the zippered pocket is measured only up to the height of the zipper, but in theory, you could put something in there a bit taller because the zipper is not at the very top.

KEY FOB – This is measured from AFTER the rivet where it’s affixed to the bag since that is the portion that is moveable.

What a fun bag!  I loved cruising around with this bag for the last two (2) months.  It’s a perfect bag for when you’re going to be out and about for a long period of time.  It’s my go-to bag for Saturday swim lessons when I’m going to be standing for a few hours.  I love to walk to errands whenever I can so if I’m going to the bank or to the grocery store, then this is my bag.  It’s so lightweight so I can walk with it for hours at a time and switch it up from tote to backpack mode.  It’ll hold all my essentials (I have a lot of essentials!), snacks for kiddo and a thin jacket.  Yes – it does fit a swell water bottle!  I wasn’t sure how I was going to feel about it being more soft than structured, but I actually really liked that aspect of it. It molds to you so you forget you’re wearing it after a while.  One other thing about it being in backpack mode – – I cinch it super tight in the video, just my personal preference as I like how it hangs that way (esp considering I wear only one strap on one shoulder), but you don’t need to cinch it quite so tight and it lays more rectangle shaped on your back, if you prefer.

The best part of this bag is the mission behind the makers, a mother / daughter duo designing out of Georgia.  Every bag is handmade, but more importantly, a portion of every sale goes to Out of Darkness.  This ministry reaches, rescues and restores victims of sex slavery.  It’s a product with a purpose.  Give Beaudin a try and let me know what you think! They’ve expanded their line to now include jewelry as well.  As for me, I want the hairy double tassel next!
