GO FORTH GOODS – Gunnar Leather Duffle Bag

I’m inspired by the Go Forth Goods – to inspire others to do good. I’m glad to shine a light on their positivity, their American made commitment and their choice to give back to the community.  10% of all their profits go to support their chosen charity. They’re a small team of five in Georgia, getting it done, handmade and guaranteed for life.

As you know, I’ve searched long and hard for the right military style duffle bag to review. This one caught my eye for a few reasons and I can’t wait to test drive it. Road trip, anyone?

On the mechanics of this bag…everything metal is solid brass, there’s a double handle top carry, a zipper option and a backpack option.   There’s just a pride of craftsmanship that shines through on this bag. This is the first bag Nathan created.  After seeing it first hand, I understand why Go Forth Goods took flight.  Watch Nathan talk about his baby here.

Lavenderwood Farm – 4H Interview

I love the mission of the 4H!  I won’t even try to repeat it to you, but you can watch Nadia say it from heart WITH heart on this video.  Lavenderwood Farm is a little urban farm (who knew there was such a thing?) tucked away in a not so rural part of Thousand Oaks in Southern California.  The mainstay there is are the Nigerian Dwarf Goats, NOT as little as you might imagine. They breed them, milk them, shear them and show them.  The partnership with 4H (teaching kiddos responsibility, leadership and how to positively work with animals) is my favorite part.  I think I might sign my own kiddo up.   The most amazing part is watching these girls speak so well and so confidently!  If you had asked me to speak cold at that age, I think I would’ve passed out.  Kudos to these four (4) young ladies, actively participating in their community and being leaders in their own right!  You ladies are so amazing and inspiring.

If you happen to be in the area, check them out on Saturdays where, most times, you can sneak in a baby goat yoga session.  Afterwards, head over to Little Calf Creamery (no relation), get an ice cream in a waffle bowl with sliced bananas, whip cream and caramel.  Any flavor will do ya, but the salted caramel is out of this world and, yup, I still shamelessly topped it with caramel. I’ve never – – and I mean NEVER – – had a waffle bowl taste as delicious as this. It’s thicker than usual with strong cinnamon flavor in the best possible way. The whip isn’t the kind that never deflates (like when you hand whip it), but hey, you can’t have everything!

Coming soon, they’ll have overnight stays on site in their sweet cottage!

If you saw my unboxing on this bag, you saw me do a little happy dance at the end.  Well, the happiness hasn’t faded at all!  The more I use this bag, the more I appreciate all the little things about this bag. If there was something Nick Duvall could have done to make the bag a little better, then he took the time to do it.  Here’s a brief overview of what makes this bag a standout:

  • Leather pulls for both zippers
  • Leather loops at both ends of the exterior zipper for easy opening and closing
  • Flexible zipper flap so it can be pulled up to open and then tucked down into the bag when closed
  • Leather trim / piping around the top edge of the bag
  • Inside seams
  • Full leather pocket (not just a single piece of leather sewn to the bag)
  • Additional open pocket
  • Key Fob
  • Solid copper rivets
  • Small (removable) branded leather key chain on the exterior
  • Structured, yet soft full grain leather.
  • Large capacity despite size

All of the above features are standard!  This bag is proudly crafted in Kingston, Pennsylvania. This makes me want to take a trip out to Pennsylvania in person to bug Nick for a tour of the studio.  Yup, this bag makes  me want to go Stage V clinger.

I get a LOT of questions about bag measurements.  What can I say?  We are a detail oriented bunch.  We don’t just want to know IF there’s a pocket, we want to know if it’s an open pocket, divided pocket, hanging pocket, anchored pocket….well, here you go!  Here’s the nuts and bolts of the Duvall Leatherwork Small Shoulder Bag.  Please note the measurements are approximate!  A few comments about how I measure below.  Stay tuned for the full review coming soon!

POCKETS – I measure the exterior of the pocket and then subtract ½” to account for the fact that the actual pocket is slightly smaller on the interior.  The height of the zippered pocket is measured only up to the height of the zipper, but in theory, you could put something in there a bit taller because the zipper is not at the very top.

KEY FOB – This is measured from AFTER the rivet where it’s affixed to the bag since that is the portion that is moveable.

What a fun bag!  I loved cruising around with this bag for the last two (2) months.  It’s a perfect bag for when you’re going to be out and about for a long period of time.  It’s my go-to bag for Saturday swim lessons when I’m going to be standing for a few hours.  I love to walk to errands whenever I can so if I’m going to the bank or to the grocery store, then this is my bag.  It’s so lightweight so I can walk with it for hours at a time and switch it up from tote to backpack mode.  It’ll hold all my essentials (I have a lot of essentials!), snacks for kiddo and a thin jacket.  Yes – it does fit a swell water bottle!  I wasn’t sure how I was going to feel about it being more soft than structured, but I actually really liked that aspect of it. It molds to you so you forget you’re wearing it after a while.  One other thing about it being in backpack mode – – I cinch it super tight in the video, just my personal preference as I like how it hangs that way (esp considering I wear only one strap on one shoulder), but you don’t need to cinch it quite so tight and it lays more rectangle shaped on your back, if you prefer.

The best part of this bag is the mission behind the makers, a mother / daughter duo designing out of Georgia.  Every bag is handmade, but more importantly, a portion of every sale goes to Out of Darkness.  This ministry reaches, rescues and restores victims of sex slavery.  It’s a product with a purpose.  Give Beaudin a try and let me know what you think!
